What to do after an accident?
Car accidents are incredibly common.  Hopefully you won’t be a victim of one, but if you are, there are several steps that you should take to protect your interests.
First, always make sure that when you move the vehicle off the road, you always stay at the scene of the accident. At this time, also make sure that everyone at the accident scene is safe.  If anyone is injured, make sure that you call for medical assistance.  Also make sure to call the police so that they can dispatch someone to the accident scene to fill out a police report. This report will need to be submitted to your insurance company.

Next, make sure to exchange information with the other parties in the accident.  You should always make sure to collect their insurance details, license plate numbers, name, address, and phone number. Also try to get contact details for any witnesses to the accident.  If you’ve been injured in any way, make sure that you seek immediate medical attention.

Your next step is to call us on 3 600 500 or call your broker / agent and notify us of the loss incident. The sooner you call the better however it should be not later than 24 hours after the incident has occurred. This will allow us to immediately begin initiating and processing the claim on our side. Note that only a simple telephone call is required in order for you to notify us of the loss: No documentation is required at this stage. Your completed claim form and other supporting documentation can come later. During the notification call, you will be advised by us or your broker / agent what documentation is required.

By taking these steps immediately after being in a car accident, you’ll have all the relevant information that you need to get your claims filed correctly and save you some major headaches down the road.
