Going Green in 2012

BIC has embarked on an ambitious project to reduce its carbon footprint. With thousands of clients, the company prints tens of thousands of pieces of paper annually. Apart from manufacturers having to cut down trees to produce the high quality white A4 paper that is used to print policy documentation, printing involves the use of laser toner which is hard to recycle. The running of high capacity laser printers and the physical distribution of policy documents to clients by road and by rail also consumes a lot of energy which adds to our overall carbon footprint.

The new “Going Green” project aims to reduce the amount of paper that is printed and enable the electronic distribution of policy and other documentation to clients via email where possible. The project also aims to encourage clients to submit policy and claim information to BIC in an electronic format where possible.

BIC is also scanning thousands of its claims and underwriting files and converting them into electronic files thus freeing up office space and reducing the need for additional office space which is inherently energy inefficient.

Whilst it is not possible to have a completely paperless office, BIC hopes to do its small part to tackle global warming and encourages others to do the same.
