The annual cycling event - Mokolodi Scorpion Cycle Challenge, has received a staggering P60 000 sponsorship from Botswana Insurance Company. This year’s event is scheduled to take place on the 22nd  September at the Mokolodi Nature Reserve. Cyclists from across the region are expected to participate.

The event has different categories namely the 56km, 36km, 10km race routes within the Nature Reserve. A 5km social walk is also available for the rest of the family.

“We have always had keen interest in supporting local sporting activities because they promote health and fitness. As an Insurance company, we are strong advocates of good health and developing the community,” said BIC Executive Head of Sales and Marketing, William Surmon.

He further stated that sporting codes that lack sponsorship tend to suffer, leading to athletes losing hope in seeing the sporting code excel to greater heights. With that, BIC sponsored the upcoming Mokolodi Scorpion Cycle Challenge to strengthen the spirit of cycling in the country.

“We are grateful for the funds that BIC provided for the event. We applaud BIC for taking the responsibility to sponsor the Mokolodi Scorpion Cycle Challenge. We also urge other corporate companies to follow BIC’s footsteps,” said Gaborone Cycling Club (GCC) Chairman, Seamus O’Neill.

The Cycling Challenge has grown and attracted a number of spectators. It has previously featured cyclists such as Angus Boxshall-Smith, Neville Van Zyl and Hezekiah Sibanda.
Botswana Insurance Company is looking forward to growing the relationship with Mokolodi Scorpion Cycle Challenge especially with the upcoming events.
